Let’s face it. With the pandemic situation around the world, all of us got used to this fancy word “webinar” Yes! we were all excited and thrilled that we can just sit back and listen to a meeting or conference. Got a little bored with that now didn’t we?

Well guess what? Organizers too got bored of hosting because of the lack of attendance as time went by. You may have hosted webinars before or you maybe completely new to this.

One might wonder if webinars are actually that important as the money and time invested is comparatively low to a physical event or a training. But if you really think, the objective of hosting a webinar is to attract new customers and create awareness of your products and services to the audience in order to increase the number of potential customers.

So after hosting a very large number of webinar over the past year, here are 5 very simple tips to increase the number of attendees at your next webinar.

1. Understand your audience and their needs

This is the first step to almost every marketing strategy out there. Whatever your industry maybe, decide what your target audience is and what common issues they face that can be addressed within your portfolio.

How can you find these data? This requires a bit of research. There are so many informative tools to filter and gather these information like Google Analytics, Facebook Audience Insights and SEO tools.

The next best way to understand your audiences needs is to directly ask them. Send an email with topics to select from or create a social media poll.

This is a very important part; hence investing a little more time wouldn’t go to waste.

2. Seek attention

In this case, being a little bit of an attention seeker is quite alright. Although you manage to understand your customers needs, if you are unable to grab their attention your hard work might be in vain.

Your webinar invite, Email flyer or social media post must have these very important elements to it, in order attract you audience.

i) Visuals

Use visuals that are pleasant and if you are including images of panelists/speakers always try to use friendly yet professional, most importantly high-resolution images. Also use colors and fonts that are clear and easy to focus.

ii) Topic

Keep this catchy, short, and direct.

iii) Message

Your messaging must answer these simple questions. What, Why and How.

iv) Webinar details

Highlight the date and time. If what you are hosting is a free webinar, don’t forget to mention that. Don’t we all love free stuff? Specially when it’s a knowledgeable session.

3. Use Social Media ads to promote your webinar

Social media ads have the ability to reach out to people outside your customer circle. Target your preferred audience based on their demographics, locations, behaviour and interests.

4. Remind your attendees

Webinars are easily forgotten or missed, so send up to 3 rounds of reminder emails. Also do a round of call ups to a customer database you already have as people tend to ignore these emails thinking it’s another marketing spam.

5. Thank you note

Don’t forget this very important step. Send a thank you note for all attendees and registrants separately and include a contact person and their details for more information.

Bonus Note — If you do have a little extra on your marketing budget, throw in a giveaway for all attendees or pick a few winners from a draw. Don’t forget to mention this in your invite.
